My Dog Rover
My dog Rover, happy as can be
Running through fields, dodging the tree
Chasing some birds
Leaving some turds
My dog Rover, at age three
Spirits running high
Up above the clouds,
My dog's heart resides
Going for walks a mile long
Loving the time, singing a song
Chasing at frogs
Jumping on logs
My hand, he licks
My dog Rover, at age six
My dog Rover at age nine
Sniffing dog's butts in a line
Sleeping all day
Playing all night
Eating all he can see
My dog Rover, fat as can be
My dog Rover, free as can be
Never indentured
To the lake, we'd venture
Downward we'd delve
My dog Rover at age twelve
Sitting by the fire
Staring into the pyre
Reminiscing the past
Rover, in my lap, sleeping fast
The years have been long
So I-- so I tell you this song
The sadness, just a sheen
My dog Rover at age fifteen
